Claims Consortium Group, is a fast growing Taunton-based claims handling company that advises insurance companies how to best settle their household and commercial claims. Jeremy Hyams, Chief Executive Officer from the group explains why he chose Taunton as their base.
“At the company’s embryonic stage – in other words, when it was just me – I had the luxury of choosing wherever I wanted to start up, so Taunton was a lifestyle choice. The company is now embedded within Taunton. The business community is very engaged and is always looking at ways to make improvements. The culture within Taunton allows us to hire staff who really suit the business and embrace our culture. Our staff are always very engaging and always looking to better themselves. Businesses are willing to share best practices and to explore collaborative opportunities. Taunton’s rail connection to London Paddington has worked very well for us as we can get into London within two hours making London meetings a lot more accessible. As a busy Father, Taunton offers me the great ability to relax with the countryside and the many walks on the doorstep.”
Taunton had to be right for me on both levels: it has to be right on business and lifestyle, and it does it on both.
Peter Brett Associates, an independent practice of engineers, planners, scientists and economists, has offices throughout the UK. Alan Swan from the Taunton branch explains why they Taunton is an important location for their business.
“Peter Brett Associates LLP came to Taunton nearly 20 years ago. We were drawn to the area not only because of its strategic location as the commercial heart of Somerset and the geographic centre of the South West, but by all that Taunton has to offer: a vibrant town centre with great transport connections, surrounded by beautiful countryside. You can get from the middle of the town to the Black Down Hills in 20 minutes, and the Quantocks in half an hour.
Taunton Deane is a fantastic place to live and work. We have built strong relationships with our local business partners, and our location attracts highly qualified staff who are very happy with the quality of life here.”
Taunton based Mundy Veneer is one of the UK’s premium merchants of veneer, buying and selling a huge range of natural wood veneers from across the World for the UK market. Co-owner of the company Alison Mundy explains why Taunton is the best connected location for their business.
In 2013, following 15 years of sustained growth, our company had reached a point where we needed additional space. We had outgrown our original 6,000 sqft industrial unit and needed at least 14,000 sqft of production, office and warehousing space in a property that reflected well upon the business, and in a location with first class road links. We chose Chelston Business Park in Wellington, located a stone’s throw from Junction 26 of the M5. Being in Somerset is great for Mundy Veneer: the storage and handling of a high quality product like veneer requires affordable and flexible space.
We have the luxury of premises that are exactly suited to our needs, and yet we’re only a train journey away from our customers and buyers in London and the South East”.
Corrugated cardboard manufacturer Rigid Containers moved to Wellington in 2013 – Site Director Paul Barber from Rigid explains the reasons behind the choice of location:
“Our company dates back over 100 years and we provide cost-effective packaging solutions to an array of customers in virtually all sectors. In January 2013 we purchased a 140,000 sqft facility in Wellington, Somerset. The choice of this location was targeted and strategic, and enabled us to gain a foothold in the South West and provide true ‘just-in-time solutions’ to new customers based in the region.
Our ‘Stock and Serve’ support for customers means we needed a location with first class access for our lorries to the UKs motorway network. Being so close to Junction 26 of the M5 gives us the opportunity to access all parts of the West easily. We also chose Wellington because of the support provided by Taunton Deane Borough Council. They worked closely with us to identify the right property then found solutions to affordability issues, including a generous grant to assist with recruitment.
