Digital and Creative
A fast growing digital and creative cluster
Digital and creative are the fastest growing sectors in the region. The ground-breaking and forward-thinking Taunton Garden Town plan puts creativity at the heart of the town’s developments.
Key areas of tech in the region are medtech, insurtech and agritech, as well as exciting AI/ Big Data.
The sector is supported by the creation of the £11m Taunton Digital Innovation Centre, funded by the county, the Government’s Getting Building Fund and the European Regional Development Fund, with the Somerset West and Taunton Council contributing as well.
Sited in Taunton’s culture quarter, Firepool will provide modern and flexible office spaces, as well as a host of meeting rooms in the heart of the town. Firepool also provides the perfect expansion environment for businesses where digital innovation and geospatial data are growth catalysts.
There is also the newly re-furbished Collar Factory in Taunton; a Grade II listed former Victorian factory building which has been renovated to support cultural workspaces and hot desk working.
Alongside council backing and investment, the sector is supported by a thriving ecosystem with a passion for collaboration. Groups such as the Somerset Arts and Business Cultural Alliance and Tech South West, as well as Digital Somerset and the Creative Innovation Centre CIC, have been key drivers in the development of the Taunton Digital Innovation Centre and are championing the digital and creative assets of the region, placing SWT firmly on the map nationally.
Already a key growth area, the region is ripe for further development and investment in the digital and creative sectors. Somerset West and Taunton is the perfect place for digital and creative companies looking to drive the future of the industry and take advantage of business and partnership opportunities as the sector grows.
“The tech sector is growing fast and has evolved to become a really vibrant scene. Tech South West is supporting that growth through a broad range of programmes, events and activities.”
